  I complained to the SRA about a solicitor who was writing to numerous organisations including insurance companies and the police stating that I was their client. They were trying to obtain my personal information and sue an insurance company in my name.
  
  The solicitor did not have a written instruction from me or anyone else. The solicitor claimed they had a verbal instruction from a claims management company. This was sufficient for the SRA to conclude that there were no conduct issues.
  
  Personally I would have expected that a solicitor would have to enter into a contract or at least speak to a person before they can go to the police demanding information from them about that person. The information commissioner stated that the solicitor has breached the data protection act.
  
  I wonder how many laws a solicitor has to breach before the SRA considers there to be an issue.
